Timeline · 2007 – 2014

This page presents the main documented chronological milestones of Teleradiology Without Borders (TWB), active from 2007 to 2014.

It gathers TWB’s principal documented events between its founding in 2007 and its last project in 2014.

2007

TWB is founded

The association is created and a teleradiology infrastructure hosted in Paris and New York is set up for the transmission, analysis and secure archiving of radiological cases.

2007

First projects

Documented projects notably involved Cameroon, Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Benin.

2008

Structuring the expertise network

In 2008, a reading group of 6 readers and 6 international emitters is formed. Across a prospective exchange of 30 cases, the reader’s opinion is judged relevant and useful in 80% of cases; these results lead to a publication in the Journal de Radiologie.

2007–2011

Making the tools available

Between 2007 and 2011, TWB helped make teleradiology tools freely available across several resource-limited settings.

2011

Academic recognition

In 2011, TWB is mentioned in Pediatric Radiology in texts on humanitarian teleradiology and paediatric radiology in Africa (“2011 – year of the bold step?” and “Paediatric radiology seen from Africa”).

2014

Final project

In 2014, a miniaturized system for encryption and secure exchange of radiological images is deployed in Benin for a radiology service run by the Order of Malta.

International networkThe radiologists taking part in remote readings were based notably in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Venezuela, Portugal and the United States.
